No. 1 Conformation DURHAM Son
From Select Sires Canada

KEMPTVILLE, Ontario, Sept. 24, 2004 — An outstanding DURHAM son from a world-renowned cow family is one of the most sought-after graduates in Canada. 7H06671 Markwell Durham DJ-ET*CV is the highest type and component 7HO5157 Regancrest Elton DURHAM-ET son available in Canada. He was sampled through the Select Sires Program for Genetic Advancement Canada™ (PGAC™) and is the program's first graduate.

"DJ and the 7HO3948 MJR Blackstar EMORY-ET son, 7HO6642 Ocean-View Emory STANE-TW*TV, are the first two graduates of the PGAC program and good examples of this excellent program," says Scott Culbertson, sire analyst for Select Sires Canada Inc. "All of our PGAC sires are hand-picked to give Canadian dairy producers genetics that may not be readily available in Canada. For instance, since DURHAM and 7HO5375 Mara-Thon BW MARSHALL-ET*TV themselves were not available in Canada, we have sampled a fair number of their sons. Also, as always, we concentrate on deep pedigrees of high-type conformation and bloodlines that will cross well on cattle in Canada."

DJ shines for type (+13 Conformation, 87% Rel.) and received the Superior Type designation on his first release. Typical DJ daughters are above average in stature and are very long cows from front to rear. They exhibit a desirable combination of dairy character and strength and have very correct feet and legs. However, what DJ sires best of all is udders. He ranks high for all udder traits, especially median suspensory ligament (+20). Rear udders are high and wide, fore udders are strong and the prominence of veining offers "chrome" along with quality. He already has 108 classified daughters in Canada and is siring Very Good 2-year-olds.

DJ is delivering high components at +0.05% and +32 EBV-kg Protein and +0.00 and +27 EBV-kg Fat, along with +791 EBV-kg Milk. His LPI of +1550 ranks him among the highest 50 LPI sires of the breed and with 130 daughters in 89 herds he already has a reliability of 89 percent.

DJ is backed by exceptional cow families on both sides of his pedigree. On the paternal side, DURHAM is a son of the tremendous brood cow, Snow-N-Denises Dellia (EX-95-2E-GMD-DOM), who has produced 31 Excellent and 47 Very Good offspring. The Markwell Bstar E Raven (EX-95-3E-GMD-DOM) cow family graces the maternal side of the pedigree. DJ's Norrielake Cleitus LUKE*TW dam, a daughter of Raven, is (EX-92-3E-GMD-DOM) and a fourth generation Excellent Gold Medal Dam and Dam of Merit. All of her daughters have scored Very Good or higher, including eight scored Very Good (88) (US) as 2-year-olds. DJ's full sister was nominated All-American as a senior 2-year-old. Sons and grandsons from both the Dellia and the Raven families have enjoyed considerable A.I. and show-ring success.

Based in Kemptville, Ontario, Select Sires Canada Inc. is Canada's fastest growing A.I. organization. It provides highly fertile semen as well as excellence in service and programs to achieve its basic objective of supplying livestock breeders with the best genetics available at a reasonable price.
