Oct. 10, 2001 — Two beautiful, deserving "Select-Sired" cows brought home the top two banners at the International Holstein Show, held Friday and Saturday, October 5 and 6, 2001, at the World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wisconsin, USA. Grand Champion, and eventual Supreme Champion, honors went to Marcrest ENCORE daughter Tri-Day Ashlyn, the first place four-year-old, while Walnut-Acres JOLT Pandora, a five-year-old daughter of Second-Look JOLT, easily claimed the Reserve Champion prize. In choosing his Senior Champions, judge Mike Deaver used four of his previous class winners and runners-up, three of which were sired by a different Select sire! In the younger cow classes, another ENCORE daughter Budjon-JK ENCORE Electra, captured second place in the Sr. 3-Yr-Old class and l ater was bestowed Reserve Intermediate Champion honors.

With her picture-perfect, wide, chiseled frame and beautifully attached udder, Ashlyn powered her way to the top of a competitive four-year-old cow class, beating out fellow Select Sires’ progeny Co-Vista AIRLINER Sarah and Zach INTEGRITY Sassy (the Genetic Merit and Production winner of the class) who finished second and third, respectively. An extremely stylish, straight JOLT Pandora glided into the ring next with the 5-Year-Old class and nabbed first place based on "more natural dairy character" and a "higher, wider rear udder attachment." Third place 5-year-old was last year’s Supreme Champion, Vandyk-K INTEGRITY Paradise, who, not having freshened since last year’s victory, looked nearly flawless. Both Ashlyn and Pandora were also tapped for Best Udder honors in their classes.

Top three places in the 4-Year-Old class are Select Sired Tri-Day Ashlyn (ENCORE), Co-Vista AIRLINER Sarah, Zach INTEGRITY Sassy.

Marcrest ENCORE daughters consistently placed well in their categories, accumulating enough points for ENCORE to be runner-up to Astre in the Premier Sire race. In the heifer classes, Rhinehart ENCORE Veena handily won the Junior/Spring Yearling class with her stylish, straight lines and depth of body. Two ENCORE heifers took 8th and 9th places in the Senior/Fall Calf class, two other ENCOREs were in the top 11 in the Summer Yearling class, and popular Gus-Wind ENCR Dandelion came back as 5th place Senior/Fall Yearling. In the milking classes, ENCORE sired the 3rd place Milking Yearling as well as 3 of the top 17 in both the Jr. and Sr. 2-Yr-Old classes, and of course the previously mentioned Electra and Ashlyn. Even in the bull classes, ENCORE sired the Grand Champion Bull, Budjon-JK ENCORE Explorer, a full brother to ENCORE Electra, the Reserve Intermediate Champion. A true testament to ENCORE’s show-type transmitting power is the fact that through-out his career, ENCORE has only been used in the USA; he has never been eligible for export to Canada which year after year has been a major source of show-winners.

Budjon-JK Enc Explorer (ENCORE) is best of all bulls and is awarded Grand Champion Bull prize.

Other Select Sired progeny who placed well included a handful of eye-catching Regancrest Elton DURHAM daughters, such as the fancy Spring Heifer in sixth place and a very early second-crop, recently-fresh Milking Senior Yearling. Margene Blackstar FRED sired the fifth place Milking Senior Yearling, and HIGHLIGHT Mr. Mark Cinder had the 12th place Sr. 2-Year-Old, Lew-Lin HIGHLIGHT Hotstuff, who had just earned Reserve Intermediate Champion honors at the recent Northeast Fall National Show.
